He's so hard to see.....

Even though I'm a lucky boy and I have a great home, I still get scared sometimes.  That bad stuff that happened to me when I was a pup comes back to scare me.  I still get afraid of flashing lights.  The big monsters outside have flashing lights, and some of the little monsters, too.  And cameras.  I don't like cameras.  Mom and Dad are always trying to get pictures of me, but I don't like it one little bit.

There was a special time this week and my hooman sister was here for awhile.  They tried to get a picture of us together because my Mom and my hooman sister helped me with  my book.  Mom was holding on tight, but I'm pretty strong!  I'm ALL muscle!  Mom was laughing, but the picture came out kind of funny because I look like I have magical light up eyes!  If those awful cameras wouldn't flash, I wouldn't mind so much.   Sorry, Mom.....

Harry has always been a reluctant photo subject.  I've tried and tried - but most pictures of him have to either be from far away or on a bright, sunny day (so there isn't any flash) or done surreptitiously with a zoom lens.

He is a mighty strong dog and impossible for me to hold when he really, really wants to get away.  I have many pictures of empty spaces where I tried and failed to catch him off guard.  For instance:

That streak to the left is his tail as he fled the room.

And this is him at his food bowl ........
I swear, he WAS there just a second ago...........

Oh, well, Mr. Spotter - we will try again in a couple of weeks - and I'll probably be just a successful as I was this time.  The spooky eyes are sort of a nice touch, though.   Devil dog!!!

No one will suspect I'm afraid.....

I know I'm a lucky dog to have my forever home.  But sometimes, I still get scared.  Like the little toaster monster.  It used to scare me.  I don't like it  much, but I got used to it....yumbers stuff comes out of it!  Haha.

It's different outside of my house.  I can get REALLY, really scared there.  Those pesky acorns keep startling me, especially when they hit the side of a house.  They are LOUD!  All I want to do is run back home, where I feel safe.

Then one time a car outside on the big road made a loud and scary sound.  Mom AND Dad had to keep me from running.  I can't help it.   It just happens.

After my afternoon walk - it's just a little walk, not a big one - I get a small treat.  It used to be a dental stick.  But now I get something else.  A little bit of peanut butter with something small inside.  I love peanut butter!  Hmmmmmm.  Those acorns aren't bothering me too much anymore.  I don't know why.  Sometimes, like yesterday, I just keep walking.  We all went around the big, big block!  It was fun!

Our neighborhood is very quiet.  We are an enclosed community and the most noise comes from the main road that is outside our boundaries.  Once a car backfired and Harry tried to bolt for home.  It took two of us to keep him still until he calmed down, sort of.  Then, with the arrival of Fall, the acorns became a problem.  If they hit the siding or the gutters, the sound is sharp, loud and startling.  Walking Harry had become a challenge once again.

So, he now gets a natural supplement once a day to help calm him down.  Chamomile, B vitamins and other natural substances, delivered in a pill dipped in peanut butter.  He has been taking them for two weeks and it seems to be making a difference.  Yesterday was the first time in weeks that he actually wanted to embark on our longest route around the neighborhood.  And that was in spite of acorns popping down around us!  Since the weather is still nice, we want him to get out and get exercise while we can!
